Fake it till you make it? NO!

I am twenty-four this year. I have had eleven different jobs. I was always looking to the next thing and waiting to be either, qualified, financially stable or waiting for a contract to end.

Looking back, I realise I had sooo much extra time to do the things I wanted to do and learn but I wouldn’t let the inner child in me move out the way so I could see the whole picture. I always looked at things in black and white and didn’t want to listen or know about the other awesome opportunities. I wanted what I wanted and that was that. Well it’s fair to say now I’m older I realise that it didn’t get me very far, and black and white truly is boring. Throughout my time I heard people telling me to ‘fake it till you make it’…. I used to really believe this was true and fake smiled my way through most of my long working days.

I’m currently a nanny and it’s very time-consuming. I work a hella lot of hours and I put everything into raising that little boy the best way I know how. I love it. However. I do know I don’t want to be a nanny forever.  So, I do my 60 hours and then guess what? I do extra work. I read, I research, I write, I network, I study new things. If I want the things I want. If I want my vision to come alive, I need to do the extra work. Nobody else can do this but me.

Until a certain age there are things you have to do before you get to where you want to be. And even when you are all grown up and think you ‘have your shit together’, you’ll still have to jump hoops you really don’t want to. That’s just the way the cookie crumbles. However something to take away from that way of thinking is to remember that everything you do is important to somebody. And everything you do is you exchanging your time for that thing.

So do it with a purpose or don’t do it at all. Look at everything as an opportunity to learn. Work and then work some more. Work your butt off and never stop. Really be present with where you are each day. We are so lucky to be here and have the opportunities we have. You may really not like where you are right now but remember that it is important to someone and if you put in the extra time to work on yourself, you will eventually be where you want to be.
